Novak Djokovic notched a record-equalling 105th match win at Wimbledon

London (AFP) - Key quotes from the fifth day of Wimbledon at the All England Club on Friday:

“I propose a match-up between Roger and me for 106, let’s stop it here and call Roger to come.”

– Novak Djokovic after equalling Roger Federer’s men’s singles record of 105 Wimbledon match wins.

“I’m sure he’s gonna play very quick and he’s gonna try to destroy me, I think. I just want to do whatever I can to, let’s say, like distract him ‘cause just by hitting tennis balls, I don’t think I can beat him at all.”

– Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki is not overly confident about his chances of beating defending champion Jannik Sinner in the fourth round.

“You’re right, I would actually prefer to talk about my clothes. It’s kind of weird. In some ways I feel like I’m a lot more equipped to talk about my clothes than to talk about my tennis. It’s strange, because I’ve been playing tennis for 20-something years. Some days I don’t feel like an expert on it.”

– Japan’s Naomi Osaka on there being more attention on her fashion sense rather than her tennis, after she reached the Wimbledon second week for the first time.

“Playing soccer, I played since I was 6, 7, up until 13, very frequently. I think it helps a lot with footwork. It’s very closely related to the movement that we do in tennis. So I think every young athlete should play soccer, football, yeah.”

– American teenager Iva Jovic on how playing football as a child has helped her tennis career.
